CEO: Ural Locomotives to develop diesel train sector
VERKHNYAYA PYSHMA, Sverdlovsk Region, Nov 23 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Urals Locomotives, a joint venture between Sinara and Germany’s Siemens, plans to develop production of diesel-powered trains, CEO Alexander Saltayev told reporters on Thursday.
“Regarding the diesel train, it has become obvious that there will be no electrification (of railway tracks) on the Sakhalin Island and in Kaliningrad, but they still need to upgrade the rolling stock. We’ve suggested developing construction of diesel-powered trains, of short trains consisting of up to three wagons. This is a prospect of 2019,” he said.
Capacities of Ural Locomotives are also ready to produce high-speed trains, he added.
